Niki has been providing therapeutic services to adult individuals and groups for 8 years. Her experience ranges through depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, grief, attention-deficits, to co-dependency issues, anger issues, and those faced with stresses such as chronic pain or divorce. Niki currently is accepting individual adult patients in her outpatient practice. Call, text or email for inquiry into appointments.

Niki received a Master's in Social Work from the Kent School of Social Work in 2007. Her Bachelor's degree is in Fine Arts, received from Western Kentucky University in 2000, with Theatre Arts as an area of emphasis. When Niki first began to work as a therapist, she was intrigued by how useful her experience as an actor/director proved to be.

Actors explore their characters, melding their own deep motivations with the literature provided to bring life to a role. This requires tuning in to one's own emotional and psychological needs, a self-reflective process, similar to the work of therapy. Directors encourage actors to build relationships with others and everything around them, to create and adapt to the imagined environment of a play, much as a therapist facilitates new insights into an individual's family systems and social environments, and how to cope within them. The parallels are endless! Niki views human beings as innately creative and resourceful, able to formulate their own unique solutions for the challenges they face.

The other strong influence on Niki's therapeutic approach are the evidence-based therapy interventions that include mindfulness. Mindfulness practices such as yoga and meditation are the leading edge of research into 'what works' in the treatment of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma and adjustment when faced with life's big and small crises. The field of neuroscience and ancient techniques for calming the mind and body are converging and Niki is enthusiastic about how she can bring these to her clients.

With 12 years of dedicated yoga practice, and the instructions received from her teachers on her visits to India, she can competently provide these tools as a useful adjunct to her client's therapy. If a client has interest, there are suggested gentle, restorative asana postures and breathing techniques that have the ability to sooth the body's over-worked autonomic nervous system, and recharge the mind for greater mental clarity. The benefits are well-documented, but until experienced with practice and knowledgeable instruction, it is just another vaguely understood remedy for stress.

People have different obstacles to trying something new like yoga. Here is an introduction to yoga that is absolutely free, straightforward and can be done in the privacy of your own home:
